Thoughts for the Day
These verses from Proverbs tell us that the fear of man is a trap, while those who put their trust in the Lord will be safe. Also, there are many that seek the favor of those in authority, but wise men desire their favor and judgment to come from the Lord; the works of unjust men are abhorred by just men, and vice versa.
In verse 25 we are told that if we allow men to intimidate us, or cause us to be afraid, it will surely bring a snare upon us. We must put our trust and faith in the Lord, as He is ultimately the One who keeps us safe. Any Christian that will cry out in faith unto God in his day of trouble, will find the Lord on his side. If God be for us, can any man be against us? God is the final authority in all things.
Psalms 56:9-11:
9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Romans 8:31-39:
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
How comforting to know that nothing can separate us from the love of God. How wonderful it is to know the promise that, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" In verse 26 of today's study, we read about how many people seek the favor of rulers and kings, since they are the ones who are in authority; however, the highest authority is God Almighty and if we trust Him and wait on Him, He will not let us down. He has the hearts of kings in His hand and He is able to turn their hearts to favor us, if we trust Him.
Proverbs 21:1: The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
Proverbs 29:27 states that the righteous and wicked are opposed to each other and each one considers the other as an abomination to them. God considers the unrighteous deeds of wicked men as abominations to Him, and men that do them will surely reap destruction. Therefore, we must choose to follow God, if we desire to live and be blessed.
Deuteronomy 30:16-19:
16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.
